North Country Quarter Horses (NCQH) is a family-owned ranch in North Central Montana, owned by Fred and Linda Finke. The ranch is located just west of Big Sandy, MT; 30 miles west of the Bear's Paw Mountains and 45 miles south of the Canadian border. NCQH grazes our horses in rough, rocky, flat terrain year-round. Our herd is exposed to extreme heat and bitter cold. This environment helps to create hardy, tough horses that can thrive anywhere. NCQH also run a commercial cattle business. We raise our horses to not only perform in the arena at all levels of competition, but to work cattle and cover ground on the ranch.
The stallions at NCQH are well bred AQHA horses, that possess good feet and bone, great dispositions, speed, agility, and conformation. We strive to establish excellence in all aspects of a working or performance horse; stamina, eye appeal, talent, and substance. We focus on breeding performance bred stallions to mares that are both performance and ranch prospects. We select mares to complement our stallions in order to find the perfect balance of speed, performance, cow and foundation lines. Our mares must have keen feminine heads, friendly dispositions, quiet minds, good withers, solid feet, big bone, and size. NCQH cattle are run on big native pastures year-round. We calve in May and June and wean in early December. We have a strong conservation ethic here at NCQH. We work very hard to enhance the natural beauty of the area. Striving to be good stewards of God's creation, we mimic a migrating herd by rotating cattle through many large pasture paddocks. We move and work our cattle using our stallions and ranch raised horses. We use traditional methods for branding and herd management in which our horses are used extensively. We not only raise these horses; we use them ourselves on a daily basis.
NCQH invites you to come take a walk through our pastures. Look at our broodmares and meet our stallions. If you are looking for quality horses that can be used on the ranch or to win at any level of competition, this is the place to look. We hope to see you soon.
The doors are always opened to take a closer look. Give us a call, we'd love to have you see our horses for yourself.
KT A Dashing Gent, aka "Jack," is our up-and-coming junior sire here at NCQH. He is an own son of A Streak of Fling out of A Famous Lady. He is a maternal half-brother to Famous Lemon Drop, who is competing at the highest level in barrel racing and is ridden by Stevi Hillman. "Jack" is quiet minded and calm. He has a big motor and has yet to show quit. He is super smooth and exceptionally fast. With good foot and bone, a nice tall wither, and a great head, we are impressed by this young stallion every day. He possesses a beautiful bay roan color that he passes to his foals. NCQH is expecting big things and looking forward to seeing "Jack's" offspring at all levels of competition and ranch work.
"Cajun" has been a part of NCQH since 2014 and we could not be more proud to own this stallion and offer his foals to you. He is an own son of the late Frenchmans Guy out of a Cash Treat daughter. He is speed bred on both sides of his pedigree and you can see that he passes that speed and power to his offspring. "Cajun" is 15.2hh, with excellent feet and bone structure. His is a big horse with a big motor. He has a kind eye, beautiful head, and excellent conformation. Not only does he possess these qualities in himself, he passes them on in his foals. We are proud to say we have kept daughters of "Cajun" for our broodmare band. "Cajun" has been a wonderful addition to our program and we cannot thank Kay and Jake Clark enough for the opportunity to own such an exceptional stallion.
"Cash" is a grandson of the great Dash for Cash and Doc O Dynamite. He is a gorgeous black stallion that stands 15.1hh. He has a cool, confident demeanor that he passes to his foals. "Cash" has great foot and bone, a solid wither, and he tips it off with a keen head and kind eye. He is not only pretty he is a good mover and very intelligent. His sire is Floating Interest by Dash for Cash out of a daughter of Special Effort. His dam is an own daughter of Doc O Dynamite. While his pedigree is full of barrel race producers, he is a quality blend of speed and cow. "Cash" has produced some if our best colts in recent years and we are thrilled to be able to continue producing foals out of this quality stallion.

Mares and foals in their late summer, early fall pasture...with the Bears Paw Mountains on the horizon.
Gambler was one of our stallions that we sold a few years ago. He was a beautiful sire and threw such beautiful foals. We had the opportunity to see him again this last fall... just as kind as ever.
We purchased 'CASH" from J-T Performance Horses, Broadus MT in 2011. Since then he has sired many a colt for us. He throws them good and throws them plenty!
